Providing Child Care

Statistics have shown that individuals who get into the profession of day care without carefully considering all factors can end up frustrated, burned out or both, and don’t last long in the child care business. Please take this time to carefully consider your decision to become a licensed child care provider. A good parent doesn’t automatically qualify you as a good family child care provider.

Thank you for your interest in becoming licensed to provide child care in Cottonwood and Jackson Counties.  Steps to becoming licensed include:

  • Complete the Family Systems Licensing Application
  • Complete required forms
  • Inspection of your home / facility by the State Fire Marshall - if required
  • Payment of license fee
  • Home / facility visit
  • Complete required training

The initial application forms packet, Family Systems Licensing Application and required forms can be picked up, or mailed to you. Requests can be made by calling either of the DVHHS Human Services offices 507-847-4000 in Jackson or 507-831-1891 in Windom.
